Adoption questions

Okay so we are heading to Germany soon, I do not want to adopt out of Germany since they will not let me. Well I have some questions:

-How old do I have to be? (I'm 18.5, 19 in June, DH is 21)
-Is there any country who allow adoption with no age restriction?
-How much will it cost me?
-How long does it take?
-Who should I go through?

Anything else important you got....

We have saved up 11,000 so far this year but I am afraid to spend to much since the government only gives 10,000 back and this is our only savings.

I would love to adopt a disabled and a non-diabled child, nothing like that matters to me. I really would like about a 1.5 or so year old but anything works here too. I think you get that nothing like that matters....thanks!

Re: Adoption questions

I don't think there's any countries that will allow adoptions under 25. Fostering, OTOH, is something that dh and I started doing at 22 and 23, and we are now adopting one of our foster kiddos, who's been with us for over 3 years. The restriction for the agency was that you had to have been married for 2 years.

I would suggest waiting until you get stationed back to the US (Germany's what, 4 years?). At that point, you will be VERY stable - not saying you aren't now, but at 19, most people arent - have a ton saved up, and could even do a private adoption in the US. OR you can look into an adoption out of foster care, whether you foster first or straight adopt.

I'd wait it out a few years, if I were you.

Re: Adoption questions

I have no idea about ages, but the military will help you. Talk to the family support center when you get to Germany!

No idea about Germany, but where I am for Foster adopt here you have to both be at least 21.
By the time you get back from Germany you'll be perfect, plus if you'll have saved a ton, you'll be set and not have to worry about working, daycare etc. even private US or international adoption would be doable.

Re: Adoption questions

Please consider waiting until you are 21 and go thru your state. There are so many kids that need homes right here! You can use that money for a bigger home or save it for something else. My state pays for college thru grad school for kids adopted thru the state.

Re: Adoption questions

If you are wanting special needs, definitly wait until you get back to the states. You could bsically get on any adoption sites in the us and have your pic. One might be www.adoptus.org Also, I am not sure what website it is but it gives you a map and you can click on any country...like Guatamala...and it will tell you all the qualifications that need to be met to adopt from their country. Including cost, and whether or not you yourself have to go their or if you can send an escort. Some countries like Russia require you go yourself, more than once and stay a couple weeks each time.

I would search for adoption sites, and or info. You will get a lot of info that way, and I used to keep a journal with each states info and countries I was interested in.

Re: Adoption questions

Here in Il, the age to adopt through the state is 18. We also looked through some private domestic agencies and the age is set by that agency. We found some that would work with us at 18, some that wouldnt until we were both 25. There are options out there, you just have to find them

Re: Adoption questions

I know I am still way young, I got married young too, at 17 so ya know...lol...man I hadn't realized we have been togeather that long. I figure if I look now and start looking into things and getting it all worked out and to where I understand it when it is time to adopt, which is when we have a child and the child is at least 2, so not for almost 3 years, at least, I will be able to do the process and not get to stressed out.
