Dilemna: Vinegar (stink) or Yeast?????

So DS is battling a yeast diaper rash and we have thrush, though its finally all on the mend with Diflucan. But i've been extra cautious with his diapers since i want to be sure to kill the yeast.

Here is my wash routine in a Kenmore HE3 Frontloader (total of 90 minutes):
Pre-rinse
Hot Wash - Charley's Soap (1/2 Tbsp)
Cold Rinse - 35 drops Grapefruit Seed Extract in Fabric Softener slot, plus a Downy ball full of vinegar
2nd Rinse

I don't have a clothesline so i can't sun them outside yet, so the hot water, GSE, and Vinegar are my best ways of killing any yeast. But our water is a bit on the hard side and i think my diapers are starting to smell (CPFs, BSWW covers, and Kissaluvs 0). I'm thinking it's the vinegar, but i don't know if i feel comfortable cutting it out b/c of the yeast issue.

Any advice? I was originally planning to wash in vinegar until the end of the month (so at least a full week, after DS's rash is all cleared up) but i don't want to have a bad smell! Or could it be the GSE? Should i add it into the detergent slot with the powder instead? Or in the bleach dispenser? And once i stop whatever is making them smell, will the issue resolve itself or will they smell forever?

Thanks so much for any help!

If you have hard water vinegar will make them smell.

Re: Dilemna: Vinegar (stink) or Yeast?????

I already use a Downy ball with vinegar. My question is whether is should keep using it b/c of the yeast and just deal with the smell for a few weeks, or quit and i'll be ok with just GSE. Anyone have advice in this regard?

I have hard water and I use vinegar and we have no smells. Just be sure to rinse rinse rinse. Were you using any diaper cream due to the yeast? If so that may be the culprit!

I do not know about the GSE though, we do not have any.
