Re: Need Help Please...

I saw two things on morning shows recently - 1 was a nicely wrapped (in freezer paper w/ a ribbon) cookie dough. YOu just put it in a tube shape and they can slice it and make their own. You could include the recipe card and if you sew make up a pair of potholders. Not baking, but still neat: The other one was do it yourself bath salt scrub. I think it was good morning america? I'm sure both ABC & NBC have low budge ideas. I don't have any recipes to offer though. Good Luck (and what a bummer on your families part)

Re: Need Help Please...

Just make a bunch of sugar cookies (even if hey are the pilsbury kind- print out some printable coupons for them online) and cut them into cute shapes and the kids decorate them with royal icing. So not fair of them to expect gifts b/c they got you something when you told them you are broke

I saw on Oprah they took cone-shaped plastic baggies, filled them wtih hot cocoa mix, marshmallows, then choc. chips and tied wtih a bow. You could also glue cut shapes of felt/google eyes to make Santa Claus on it. (my idea) The woman had to have 15 kid gifts so this was cheap!

Rachel Rays 5min fudge ring is always a big hit in my family. I have family members that don't like nuts so I've even subbed the raisen & nuts and put cookie pieces or marshmellows in it. You can also instead of using choc chips I've subbed w/peanut butter chips. Here's the link

I would make containers (glass mason jars or whatever you have cheap) and fill them with a cookie mix ( you can google for what I am talking about) and print instructions to add egg/oil and cooking times. You can also make home made baileys or amaretto. make cheapo dough for hand prints from your kids. Have you kids make huge cards with hand/foot prints/christmas messages/ect as the 'main' present.
