That's a really good idea!

In Louisiana, its also $5.15 but I don't know anyone in *this* town that pays that. Maybe some small local businesses, but even McDonald's pays $7-$8 something an hour for starting positions. For servers though, its $2.13 + tips. Basically, (unless you work some other position too) that just covers your taxes on each check.

for everything that Washington needs to work on, its nice to know that At $7.93, Washington state will now have the highest minimum-wage level in the entire U.S......I cant believe we have that...cuz for teachers pay we are in the bottom 8 !!

The same here, I think it's great and all but eventually cost of living will go up to offset it. So the people that got that extra money will financially be back where they started and people like my DH who makes a few bucks more won't get a pay raise and have to pay a higher cost of living as well. It really sucks that it ends up that way.

Yeah, it is now $7.50, but the low end house around here is over 500,000 (and that is a piece of junk).

*nods* we were looking into townhomes to buy. for a fixer upper that we'd have to put another 100-150K in was like 350K. Um, no thanks. I'd rather just spend the extra 100K and buy a small house for 450K and not have to do any work to it. KWIM?

BUT, this realistate bubble is going to pop in the next couple years. Cost of housing is already going down. My DHS uncle was going to move out of state, but in the year he was "thinking" about it he lost over 100K in equity in his home. He could have gotten 900-1M for his house and now it's at about 780-800K. So, hopefully in the next few years we'll be able to afford a house LOL

Oh Sally - I think here it depends on the restraunt. MY DH was a server for a few places and at the smaller places he made min wage + whatever tips he got. At the bigger chain restraunts it was like 3 something plus tips.
