is this a bad idea?

I have a pair of really nice Freelance Mama longies that are way too big for ds. I'm guessing they might fit him next winter (though it's obviously hard to judge).

Would it be a stupid idea to try to felt them to see if they'll shrink to a small enough size to fit now? Or should I just hold on to them until they fit?
