please help, need "updo" for 9 yr old?

My dd is a jr cheerleader. On the 22, and 29 of this month I have to create an updo for cheerleading that won't come loose during a 8 hour class day or during all her routines. I'm thinking for one I'll do a french braid with the tail tucked under it. I was thinking a smooth ponytail with curled ends for the other one, but I'm not sure how much of and updo it has to be. And of course I don't want her looking like a Bratz doll or something.

I was just going to say french braid, two of them, one down each side. If she has fine hair use some gel or something like that first. You can either tuck the tails in, braid down to the ends and put elastics there, or put the elastics closer to her head with little ponytails at the ends.

Maybe a soft fabric headband just to be sure.

Be sure to let us see what you come up with!

I like the 2 french braids idea too. You could use tight elastics to put in ribbons at the end of her uniforms colors.

Well, the stereotypical cheerleader do is a high ponytail with a ribbon. Sometimes with barrettes or bobby pins to help catch odd hairs. I like the 2 french braids idea, too. If her hair is long enough, tie the ends together with a ribbon.

my sd has SUPER FINE hair! she is a gymnast and has to have her hair in a bun for the competitions! while her hair is damp I put the strongest gel I can find in it and then put it in a high ponytail. I divide the pontail in 2 and do a wrap bun. I wrap one section and secure it with bobby pins and hair spray and then I wrap the 2nd section. Although, with your dd being a cheerleader, you may want to leave the 2nd section loose so it looks like a ponytail. Just my HTH

our gymnasts wore high ponytails with curls, buns were awful for the levelr 2'3 and 3's who had handstand-rolls or back extension rolls our cheer squad did spiral curls, tons of them(the girls with short hair did fake curls ) i would say either that or french briads. at 9 years old they dont expect anything more, and anything fancier will fall out when they tumble/stunt.

2 french braids or high ponies are the classics, mama! Stick with them, I say...

thanks for all the ideas! she has long hair, mid back length, but hates to have it up. I just hope she'll leave it in. I have to fix it before she leaves for school, because by the time her game starts I'll be at work.
