Changing from toddler bed to twin bed???

DD is 3 and we want to get her a twin bed so DS who is 18 months old can have the toddler bed! The problem is that DD is saying she doesn't want to give up her bed and she doesn't want a new bed. She was in her crib till she was 2 and then I had to trick her to get her out of it so DS could use it!!
Should we just buy it anyway and try to trick her again or just buy DS a toddler bed and wait it out another year?

Re: Changing from toddler bed to twin bed???

She might be more interested if she got to be involved in picking out the bed and bedding, it would help her feel like she had some control in the situation...

Maybe some BTDT mamas will have better advice, we're going straight from co-sleeping to a twin and skipped cribs/toddler beds completely

Can you just put DS in the twin bed and let her keep the toddler bed?

Re: Changing from toddler bed to twin bed???

What we did was we went and got a mattress and let her pick out sheets and some fleece so I could make her a blanket. And we put the toddler bed away for a few months before putting her younger brother in it. By that time she was comfortable with her bigger bed and thought of it as her bed and the toddler bed as her old bed. She was about 3 when we did that.

Yes, let her pick out her bed. Talk to her about big girls having big beds and little boy having little beds, which is why you're giving the toddler bed to DS.

I think you should just put DS in the twin bed 'til she changes her mind. Maybe some really cute sheets & blankets for the new bed will help her change her mind. Maybe a canopy over the bed?
