Re: food dehydrator ?
My mother bought me one a couple of years ago, and I've mostly only used it to dry flowes & herbs. I've tried to do fruits a couple of times, but keep leaving them in too long and they get way overdone. I think that's mostly because I try doing things overnight, but they always finish faster than what the guide is telling me the should, so...

Re: food dehydrator ?
We have one- I haven't used it in forever...but I remember the jerky was really good, we also did fruit leather that was tasty. My DH remembers strawberries being good. A lot of it was trail and error for different fruits and cooking times. For us it was one of those things that we used a lot when we first got it, and have kinda forgotten about it, maybe I should pull it out and dust it off
My DH had the same suggestion about doing our own vs buying everything from the JT co-op

Re: food dehydrator ?
What recipe do you use for the jerky? I've wanted to try some, but didn't know how I should make it.

Re: food dehydrator ?
MIL got us an excaliber for x-mas - the big one. It's pricey though, I wish she hadn't spent that much (hundreds). LOve it though. DH makes lots of jerky & I do fruits & even breads & crackers.

Re: food dehydrator ?
We had 2 apricot trees growing up that produced way more than any family of 8 could eat. We ate tons, made a years worth of Jam, gave tons away and then dehydrated the rest. Whew! They were so yummy though! Our dried apricots tasted WAY better than the stores though. Also Watermelon tastes like candy when it's dehydrated. Strawberries are really yummy too. I just bought a dehydrater, so I'll be trying it out again once we move in June!
