safe to cook chicken pieces in cast iron skillet?

I am new to cast iron and have been using it for grilled cheeses, pancakes and for the first time, bacon this morning (yum). since you are not supposed to wash it is it safe to cook chicken pieces and other meats (pork chops, sear a steak, etc...) in it?

OK, I'm going to admit this to the public... I always wash and then reseason my iron if I'm cooking meat. Just a quick dot of soap, hot water and a swish with a soft sponge and it's done. Then I oil it and bake it on a low temp for a while. You don't HAVE to do that but the thought of putting it away knowing there was just animal fat in there freaks me out badly.

I always do a quick wash and re-oil after meat as well. Nothing major, but I also don't like cooking on old meat fat and juices. The only exception I find ok is bacon since it leaves so little behind.

I never use soap on my cast iron. If I cooked something or something got on it where I feel it needs to be sanitized, I put some water in it and bring it to a boil. I then dump out the water, dry the pan and re-oil it for good measure.

I always wash mine with a bit of soap too and just re-season as necessary.
