Do you have a baby who wears glasses?

If you do...how do you keep them on???

DS has alternating esotropia (two "lazy" eyes)...and the dr is having us try glasses to see if that helps before we do surgery. We're hoping to avoid surgery if we can.

BUT...he will not leave them on! Not even with a strap!

Any tips??

Re: Do you have a baby who wears glasses?

My oldest son wore glasses from 18 months until 2.5yrs for the same reason as your DS (esotropia in both eyes). The first few days were rough but he adjusted to them pretty quickly, probably because he realized he could see better WITH them He didn't have any improvement with glasses & patching, unfortunately, and had eye muscle surgery in February 2008. It was a complete success and you cannot even tell that his eyes ever crossed.

Madeline had glasses just a touch over 2, we used a nylon adjustable band thing that attached to the glasses. After about 8 months of wearing her glasses we were able to take it off without her ripping her glasses off.

Like this, but her's was plain and black http://eyewearstraps.com/childs_adjustable_cords.aspx

Re: Do you have a baby who wears glasses?

DS#1 has been in glasses since 21 months, so older than your LO. It took him a week or so, and then he wouldn't take them off (like PP mentioned, I think he was glad to be able to actually see something.) Distraction worked best for him, particularly the TV or videos. We started slow, the first day he only wore them for ten minutes or so, then gradually increased it for a couple of days, then he did fine and wouldn't take them off (for anything! He bathed and slept in glasses until he was 4. Now he takes them off at night at least.) My DH was an esotropia baby, glasses as an infant, patching, and finally surgery. I would want to avoid surgery, too, I hope your LO gets used to them soon. Good luck with your glasses adventure!

Re: Do you have a baby who wears glasses?

he's got a plain elastic band that goes around the back of his head (darn thing is pink - its all they had lol) but he still gets them off

I wonder if that one works differently?

Since he's so young, could you wrap him on your back or front, with his hands in, and just keep him busy?

GL! We've had 2 surgeries for esotropia in 1 eye. Glasses since 3. And, let me tell you, we have to get them straightened SOOOO often!!!
