Question about making bread

Hey mamas.
Money is super tight (as in I"m totally broke) and I'm out of bread..something my family eats a lot of...

Here is my question. I am out of regular white flour. I have whole wheat, and I have cake flour. I have a recipe that calls for 2 cups of white flour and 2 cups of wheat flour.... what would happen if I used the cake flour in this recipe instead of the white flour? Or if I used the rest of my white flour and substituted the shortage with cake flour?

Thanks mamas!
God bless,
Michelle

Also... anybody have any ideas for cheap but nutritious meals?

Re: Question about making bread

i dont know how cake flour would do...

using all whole wheat will make a super dense loaf...

try these whole wheat pancakes, they are very good not dense at all, my kids gobbled them down and asked for seconds too! very good even without syrup!

Whole wheat pancakes
2 c Buttermilk, (or milk)
2 Eggs
1 tb Brown sugar
2 c Whole-wheat flour
1 ts Baking soda ( I used a bit more and they were super fluffy)
1/2 ts Salt
1 tb Butter; melted

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Butter 2 large baking sheets, and place in
oven. Combine all ingredients. Do not overmix; the batter should be lumpy.
Ladle pancakes onto hot baking sheets. Bake 10 minutes without turning over pancakes.

Re: Question about making bread

Thanks for the recipe! We'll try them out!! I love that there is no flipping

As for the flour.. I found the answer... for anyone who wants to know.. To subsittute..

Use 1 cup plus 2 Tablespoons of cake flour, for each cup of all purpose flour that the recipe calls for!

God bless,
Michelle

good to know about the cake flour! Hope you like the pancakes! Oh and I have tried them on a griddle and while good, the oven is better!
