Re: BEST TIP for hard water
for those saying salt will corrode the machine, isn't the salt in calgon going to do the same thing? so i don't think using this is any different?? but again it is still working nicely for me, and that how stuff works article was great!

Re: BEST TIP for hard water
I got a 50 pound bag at Costco for $5! I've been using just a small handful to my wash and it's awesome! My clothes are brighter and I'm able to use a lot less detergent! Seriously... WOW. I'm impressed!

Re: BEST TIP for hard water
So I am really torn. I want to use the salt pellets full time in every load, but I'm worried that I'm going to damage my machine. Arghh!

Re: BEST TIP for hard water
is the alternative to calgon and all this salty-talk just to use baking soda? i'm confused. if it is, then why not just use baking soda -- it's super cheap.

Re: BEST TIP for hard water
I was talking to my dad about this and he thinks that you won't only damage your washer, but your plumbing as well. Yikes! That would be terrible.

Re: BEST TIP for hard water
yeah, living in WI and seeing all the damage road salt does to vehicles there is no way I'd put it in my washer.
