What does your 2 year old do at PT?

DD is toe walking, and we are starting PT in a week. The PT is a ped specialist at our children's hospital, and she also is at the satellite location by our house. DD is going for sensory issues with her feet and to work on stretching the ankle. Since she's 2, its not like she will sit and do the same things you would do for an adult, and I have no idea exactly what the sensory training entails. The orthopedist was pretty vague and I didn't think of all these questions at the time.

So, what does your child do at PT?

Re: What does your 2 year old do at PT?

My daughter has been in pt since she was 6 months old. Her PT is very play based and always has been. So she doesn't do exercises like an adult would. Instead her PT will engage her in play that forces her to use her body the way that she is supposed to. Right now she is working on having her walk and carry a toy, sidestep up and down stairs, and narrow her gait by having her walk between objects.

My Nephew who is 22mos now has been getting PT for almost a year now. She has him walk up the slide and go down the ladder, then back up the ladder and down the slide, they work on bouncing on his trampoline, walking properly, does streches with him, they play ball, etc. It varies from week to week what she does with him.

He's wore out when she leaves there's been times where he's taken a 3hr nap after PT.

It's OK, next time I'll make you listen. I wish that it were in the power of all children to say that to their parents and to know that indeed they would be heard as we were in those wonderful days on Waltons Mountain.Narrator The Waltons (From the Runaway in Season 3 Eposide 4.)

Re: What does your 2 year old do at PT?

My DS has been in PT since he was 10 months old, he is now 19 months. He still isn't walking, but getting there, and I don't think he would be where he is now without the help of his PT. She only comes for an hour every other week since that is all we qualify for thru the state, but he is worn out by the time she leaves. He does a lot of work with the big yoga balls and she has taught us to keep all his toys UP so that he has to cruise around on the furniture to get to them.
