Re: Traveling via plane with the swine flu
I would be leary....but then again, I am totally freaked out about these kind of things...
If I HAD to fly, I would be "that" passenger with the face mask on and my lo would have one on too...lo.

Re: Traveling via plane with the swine flu
My DH travels for a living. Last week, he flew to San Francisco, then LAX, then back to San Fran, then home, and this morning he left for Omaha. He'll be back in a week and then he leaves a week later for Pennsylvania. (You think that's bad? He was working at a poultry processing plant in THAILAND when the avian flu was going around Asia a few years ago....)
Obviously, we don't have the luxury of freaking out about the flu thing right now. The idea of refusing to fly and having no income is much more frightening than the remote possibility that he'll get sick and bring it home with him. But if you feel nervous about flying and its just a pleasure trip, then wait a few weeks to see how this all plays out. The airlines were saying that they were going to allow folks to cancel airline tickets for a full refund this week, so you should be able to change your plans without losing money. Otherwise, just go and treat it like you would any other airline trip during cold & flu season. Wash your hands a lot. Wear a mask if you'll feel more comfortable. |

To me it would depend on where I was flying into.

Re: Traveling via plane with the swine flu
Keep your hands cleaned and don't let passengers get in your LO's face and you should be fine. Thi is just the plain 'ole flu. They proven it lacks the amino acid necessary for it to be a super deadly flu. It is however a similar strand to a flu back in 1957, hence the old folks not getting ill, due to already having immumities. As long as your LO is healthy you both should be just fine

Re: Traveling via plane with the swine flu
I would go. I would bring purell and saline spray for my nose but I would hope you would do that anyway.
You need to remember that even the dreaded 1918 flu pandemic had a mortality rate of a bit over 2%. That means that EVEN if on the off chance you get it you have a 98% chance of surviving through it. And that is if you don't go to a doctor if you were to get it and get the antivirals and other meds that we have now. Which to me brings the survival rate even higher. Have fun!
