cabbage??

Has anyone heard of using cabbage to relief sore breasts? A lady told me that if you wash it, put it in the fridge and then take it out as needed, applying directly to the breast, it helps with the engorging? Has anyone tired this? I am due soon and dreading my milk coming in since breast feeding with DS I had mistisis 5 times!

yes its true. on both counts - it can help but it can inhibit milk production as well.
Here's a great page on it

Re: cabbage??

Umm... do you know what caused your mastitis? Were you pumping? Remember with each new baby you'll have a WHOLE new experience, this time may be Awesome with NO problems! Good luck!! Yep I've heard of the cabbage too but only to use when your trying to get your milk to DRY up not while trying to nurse and relieve pain.

Re: cabbage??

doesnt it cause you to dry up? If you want to continue nursing I wouldnt do it all the time. I'd hate to see your supply drop!

Re: cabbage??

I wouldn't mess with it, because it can dry up your milk. Try ice packs. They helped me a lot.
