Tortilla press? Anybody have one?

I have one.. I'm hispanic and all we use for our corn tortillas is water and maseca [brand of masa]. no salt, fat.. etc.

if it's sticking to your press.. cut out shapes to match your press out of a plastic bag. that's how my mother and grandmother, etc do it. put the masa in the middle of the plastic and press.. they shouldn't stick! if they do, you aren't using enough water.

Wax paper is a great idea! I'm going to try that next time I'm going to get amaranth flour next time I make it to the co-op. I've seen it but didn't know what I'd do with it.

This is exactly how we do it, too.. There are a couple states up north in Mexico that will blend in a little bit of white flour to help with the moldability of the tortillas, but other than that pure maseca and water! No salt, fats or anything like that. Sopes is the same recipe, just formed differently by hand. We use the cut out plastic bags, too..
