Anyone Mastered the Back Carry Position w/Ring Sling?

I have a Maya wrap and I generally do the hip carry, but DS is big enough to do the back carry. Everytime I try I don't seem to be able to tighten it enough. There is too much slack and he starts slipping and falling down. Anyone have any tips. I have the rings positioned in the middle of my chest and I'm not sure if that is the place for me. Also, can you still use the shoulder cap flap w/this position? I really like using it, but was wondering if that was part of the reason I couldn't tighten it very well.

No, I've never mastered it. I'm always afraid she'll fall off. I use a wrap or an MT for back carries.
If I'm cooking, I'll occasionally move her temporarily from hip to back in a sling, but it's usually only for a couple of minutes.

PFFT! He'd eject himself. lol. For the back carry, I use our Kozy.

We don't vaccinate, we kept our sons intact, we use cloth diapers, we co-sleep, we extended RF, we breastfeed, but we watch too much tv and I totally dig plastic! Everyone has their issues, lol.

Re: Anyone Mastered the Back Carry Position w/Ring Sling?

I think the trick I have found is to start by putting the rings like down past your shoulder blade in the back but having the tail up front to grab. Start by putting baby in it but at your hip. Then I put my left hand kind of on his butt and my right hand on the tail and do a hop/tug.

Once I have him positioned where I want on my back, I kind of hold him there and then keep pulling on the tail. To tighten it, sometimes you have to pull bits of fabric at a time up by the rings to tighten top/middle/bottom if that makes sense.

It definitely took practice, but we have it down.

I can't wait for my Baby hawk to get here....now I gotta learn something new

When I have the baby on my back and the ring sling in position, I bend forward some and then tighten. It helps if there's a mirror or somebody nearby to be sure the sling is covering where it needs to.
