My girls were exposed to chicken pox...
10 days ago. They both have a low fever and slight cold symptoms...could those be signs of chicken pox??? Also, DD #2 is still breastfed...is that going to affect her long-term immunity?? I have heard it does, but I haven't found anything on the net about that.

Re: My girls were exposed to chicken pox...
I am not sure but when I came home from the hospital as an infant (I was a premie too) all of my sisters had the chicken pox. I was breastfed for two months I think (not long) but I did not get chicken pox until I was almost 18 years of age.

Re: My girls were exposed to chicken pox...
Well if they get spots and start sqwacking then you'll know. No really low fever and cold like symptoms can be signs of cp but you really can't say that's it and not just a cold unless they get the spots. Also your nursing might effect her long term immunity since she's getting your immunity and her body doesn't have to fight it really. Don't know, ask a lactation consultant or doctor about that.

Re: My girls were exposed to chicken pox...
I think the incubation period is up to 14 days, and it does start with a fever and no visible spots, so it could definitely be the start of the chicken pox.
Last year my older son got chicken pox, but my younger son managed to avoid it! ETA: My older son was breastfed for his first 11 months. My younger son was only breastfed for 7 months (I kept getting mastitis and as much as I hated to quit nursing, I really had no choice.). Anyway.... I don't know if/how that may have played in to my younger son not getting it even though he was not still nursing at that time and had been weaned for about 2 months.

Re: My girls were exposed to chicken pox...
It can take up to 21days after exposure to break out in spots.
for some kids fever & cold symptoms are signs, for others they don't have them. All you can do is wait it out and see.

Re: My girls were exposed to chicken pox...
Yeah, I'm just curious if it's a possibility this might be a sign or if it's a completely unrelated illness.
Cross your fingers for me!! I want to get CP over with! |
