HELP ME! My son won't take a decent nap!!

I just don't know what to do. My son is 9 months old and will not nap for more than 20 minutes at a time. He goes down no problem, but he is awake in 15 to 20 minutes. I've tried letting him fuss hoping he'll go back to sleep. I've tried going in and patting his back. Nothing works!

I put him down awake. I put him down asleep. No diffference.

His room is dark, and the sound machine is on.

What can I do??? I'm losing my mind. I know he needs to nap more because he's obviously tired.

try putting him somewhere else to nap even if its the floor. my ds won't nap on his mattress so this is the only way for us. if you have to, hold him for naps! once you get the cycle going it's easier

How is his nighttime sleep? My ds stopped napping around 9 months (well, except the occasional 10-15 min nap before he woke up screaming). At the same time, his nighttime sleep was atrocious, and he wanted me to hold him constantly during the day. After a while, we realized that he was truly in pain. He's tested positive for multiple food allergies and still has an undiagnosed digestive problem. We started solids at 6 months, and the sleep problems started gradually from then but peaked around 9 months.

DD slept better in the car when she was that age. I ate a lot of lunches in the driveway!
