"Depends" for first couple days postpartum?

I'm having this baby at a birth center, which means no cool net panties and no postpartum pads. I usually double up on the pads for the first 24-36 hours and then I'm fine with just one heavy flow. I have mama cloth for at home, but don't really want to tote bloody mama cloth home from the BC. The midwife suggests Depends....

Anyone have experience with them? Are they comfortable? How often do they need to be changed? Would you end up with blood all over the inside of them?

TIA!

hey mama....i had to wear them PP for over a week. My bleeding is so heavy I put a pad INSIDE the depend. They aren't uncomfortable, are they vicky's secret; no. They soak up the blood, and depending on how heavy you bleed that determines how often to change it. Just grab the walgreen or CVS brand. Good luck!

my midwife suggested the same thing, but I just couldn't bring myself to use them...I got the giant nighttime super absorbant pads with wings and changed often....it was fine.

I did with dd1 and they worked wonderfully. I bought more for dd2 but I had her natural and didn't have nearly as much bleeding and didn't need them.

Re: "Depends" for first couple days postpartum?

With my DS my midwife had me use about a size 5 cheap diapers (baby). They worked fine but I did not have a super heavy flow. I think about day 3 I switched to my cloth pads.

I have used them w/ my last 5 babies. Usually only the first day or so. They are fine, I get a little stick feeling as they are not cotton, but I do not have to worry about overflow everywhere.

I just bought nightime pads or regular pads and some boy short undies and that worked out great.

ooooh! Thanks! I love those things. You think the largest Poise pads(15) would be comparable to the postpartum pads? I'm just not too sure about how comfortable I'm going to be in paper diapers undies. lol
