Re: "Depends" for first couple days postpartum?

I loved the mesh panties. Are you sure they don't have any at your birthing center? I had my dd at a birthing center and they had them there.

Pretty sure. Last night at my appointment I saw some depends in the bathroom. lol

I ordered a sample from the Tena link. I'm curious to see how they feel. I also got a poise sample coming.

Re: "Depends" for first couple days postpartum?

I had a homebirth, and had a package of Depends I was so excited to use.

HATED them. I don't think they are meant to absorb something as thick as blood. The blood just sits on top and pools... Also, there is a crease in the crotch where they are folded, and the blood pools in the crease and overflows out to the sides.
It's hard to change them as much as you want to, because you have to take your bottoms off to pull them off, and to put knew ones one. When you pull them down, because of the elastic leg holes, it smears blood down your legs when you pull them off. I spent a lot of time feeling uncomfortable because I felt wet enough to want to change, but didn't want to go through the process of taking that BIG HUGE thing off (...and they filled up the garbage really fast)

Can you tell I hated them??

I preferred the Poise pads MUCH better. The suck the blood down into the pad much better, and they have a "rim" all around the pad to contain the gushes of blood (and they don't use wings which I HATE)

Just my "humble" opinion

Re: "Depends" for first couple days postpartum?

i got black hiphugger type undies with the full coverage butt and always super heavy overnights with wings. i only them for a few days, then just regular ultra thin pads for a few weeks.

Well this settles it. I'm not using depends. I think I'll just get some full coverage undies and the poise pads. I liked the look of the poise with that rim, I thought it would be good for containing gushes.

Your description of the Depends is exactly what I was thinking would happen. Thank you!

I just use the ultra heavy overnight pads with wings and big long back tails on them.

Re: "Depends" for first couple days postpartum?

I love the mesh panties too, I have a whole collection of them, I wash them in the washing machine and use them the whole first week postpartum, sometimes longer if needed . I ask for extras before I leave the hospital so I always have plenty.

I buy the thickest pads I can find, since the thinner pads I would use instead tend to fold up no matter what type of underwear I wear, and since I have always had stitches, the folding up really bothers me. I do have a couple of big undies I bought here and there to have for those first weeks too.

Re: "Depends" for first couple days postpartum?

You can buy a sewing pattern to make your own post partum diapers here. They are very similar to depends. In case anyone wants to take them to the hospital.
I have my babies at home, so it's not a big deal for me to use them.

I love the mesh panties too. They're just so stretchy and I felt less bad about chucking them than an actual pair of underwear. I was lucky to get a bunch in the hospital, plus my sister gave me her extras. I'll be passing my extras back to her for her next one due in April!

I used Depends once after DD, and just didn't like them, for the same reasons others mentioned. I felt bad for the people that actually have to wear them everyday!
