Is it rubella?

Yesterday after lunch, DH and I noticed a little rash on DS. Not sure where it started, but it was on his face, arms and legs when we put him in his carseat. It looked like an allergic reaction, but he hadn't had anything new that day. Then, a little bit later, his eyes were a little red and his nose was running, but I figured it was from playing on the beach/in the water. This morning, he is running a low fever. My usually super-active, never sit, gotta go-go-go munchkin is sitting on the couch with his blankie, playing with blocks and watching cartoons with Mimi (my mom). He's not acting sick or cranky, he's happy as a clam, he just isn't being himself. He had been cranky for a few days before the rash sprouted, but I figured that was from the two teeth that finally showed up.

My best guess is rubella, but I was hoping someone here would have a little more insight. It's definitely NOT roseola or an allergic reaction though, I know those for sure. I'll try to get a picture of the rash when I get home from work tonight, but does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Re: Is it rubella?

Now he's developed a cough, so I called and got him in with his pediatrician. Anyone want to guess what it might be?

I have no idea, but it could also be scarlet fever or possibly Fifth's disease. That's just other things it could possibly be. I honestly don't know. It could be anything. Glad you will be seeing the dr soon.

I'm thinking a cold with a viral rash. I'm surely not thinking Rubella.

Re: Is it rubella?

DS2 was just diagnosed with Fifth's disease on Monday. He had a rash on his upper body, chest area and it faded down his back. It only came up twice, and never on his arms, legs or face. Hes been irritable at night, and had a low grade fever on & off for two days, highest at 100.6. Its very hot here and he doesn't have his molars yet, so I just thought he was teething and had a heat rash. He never got the 'slapped face' rash at all, well not yet. Other than having a hard time sleeping at night hes been acting his normal self. He hasn't had a cough, but his voice got really hoarse (sp?) yesterday morning & is still a little raspy today. She did say it looked to be a very mild case. DS1 has yet to show signs of anything, and neither are in any type of child care center Ive no clue where it came from (if she was correct) since we've been playing calm at home for over a month with DS1's arm in a cast that he couldn't get wet. I almost thought it was chicken pox. She did say that if it re-occurs hed need a blood test.
