if your first two were horrible sleepers, how was the third?
Or, what are my chances of lucking out ihe third time if I'm brave enough to have another? My DD was a horrible sleeper...took me forever to get her to sleep, she woke 5+ times every night from 6-15 months, then about 3 times a night from 15-24 months, and would from 12-24 months would only nap for 45 minutes unless I nursed her for the rest of her nap. I didn't think it could get any worse, but DS has far exceeded his sister. At 8 months he wakes up who knows how many times a night and is exceedingly difficult to get to sleep (I have spent at least a month total out of his life trying to get him to sleep...I bet there's thin spots on the carpet from all the bouncing I do on the exercise ball while trying to get him to sleep). DD was at least a happy baby and it really didn't faze her if she missed a nap. DS needs a lot of sleep, frequent naps (not that he gets them because half the time I can't get him to go to sleep), and is very crabby when he's tired. I can't handle another horrible sleeper, and I'm afraid if I ever recover enough from DS to try again, I'll end up with an even worse baby.
So for those whose first two were horrible sleepers, what was your third like? Reassure me...or convince me not to have another!

Re: if your first two were horrible sleepers, how was the third?
I don't have a third, but the 2 I have both aren't very good sleepers. They both wok up several times during the night, and my first never really slept through the night until 2 1/2 or so. DS2 sleeps through the night occasionally but is usually up 1-3 times a night.
I think it has more to do with my parenting styles than their sleep temperment. We do all the things you aren't supposed to do: Nurse to sleep, rock to sleep, let them sleep in our bed, no CIO. Maybe if we took a different path they'd be better sleepers. But I'm willing to give up a little sleep for my parenting choices. If we had a third, it'd probably be the same way. |

Re: if your first two were horrible sleepers, how was the third?
Mine have actually gotten worse. My first was a wonderful sleeper, second not so much, and third has been the worst. However, I think a lot of it has to do with personality of the child, but a lot of it also has to do, like a pp said, with parenting styles.
I do wonder sometimes, though, how many parents with babies who don't sleep well have babies who have a physical reason for not sleeping well. Silent reflux, for instance. A food sensitivity that upsets their tummies, perhaps. I don't know. I know that in our house food played a big part in the sleeping issues. |

Re: if your first two were horrible sleepers, how was the third?
My oldest was 5 before he stopped waking at least once during the night. between birth and two and typical night was between 4 & 6 wakings. I do think there were some physical issues that I did not persue. My second one did better and woke up once in the middle of the night until she potty trained. DD #3 IS THE perfect sleeper! Since she was 9 mos old she has slept 7 to 7 with a nap.
**hugs*** momma I know how fustrasting that lack of sleep is.
