Hot off the press- ACOG statement allows for more than ice chips for laboring women, as well as scheduled c/s. I'm a happy home birther myself (now), but I don't want my poor hossy sisters to be denied a refreshing beverage in the throes of labor! Yeah for incremental improvements!

One of the things I love about my midwife.. is that she encourages eating and drinking in labor "you need to keep your stregnth up, especially if it's a longer labor."

The birthing center has a kitchen with stove, microwave, pots, pans, cooking utenslis etc.. she has a fully stocked kitchen minus the food. She said so "If you're hungry, you can bring food to cook just in case, or send dh out for ingredients. If you're hungry, I want you to eat!

Cool huh?

You could only have ice chips before? When I was in labour with my first, I was told I should be drinking more and got in trouble for not drinking enough. It turned out I could not keep anything down anyways though and since my labour ended up being 32 hours, they eventually put an IV on me to keep me hydrated. I am in Canada so perhaps my experience could be different?
