Placenta Encapsulation

I did it with my son. I actually steamed it, cut it up, and baked/dehydrated it myself. Then I ground it up in a coffee grinder and scooped it into pills. It made 100 exactly! (Immediately after his birth we cut off a quarter sized chunk and made a smoothie.)

I also had no PPD this time around, after suffering from a severe case with DD2. I also used it to increase milk production and my post-partum bleeding was very short-lived and light.

ETA: Throughout my whole pregnancy the thought of eating the placenta raw made me feel ill. I also was 100% sure I did not want to touch the dang thing and would pay someone else to encapsulate it for me. Honestly, after my son was born for some reason I wasn't grossed out anymore and I just went ahead and did everything myself. Having the placenta in a smoothie, you couldn't even tell it was in there. I was just thinking, hey people eat raw fish or cut up raw meat to cook! How is this any different?

The placenta is washed, steamed, cut up, dehydrated, ground and then capsules are filled.

Yet it may seem gross but think about pharmaceuticals and all the side effects they carry, especially the ones for depression. A woman's placenta is unique to her because its hormonal mak-up is tailored to her. It has no side effects.

Awesome-tastic what town?? I have lived pretty much everywhere around here, though I grew up mostly in Martinez and currently live in P. Hill.

I would appreciate that a lot if you wouldn't mind I am very interested in doing this and would like to ask prices and such of as many people as I can find, i'm a single soon-to-be mama (that's a long story) and money is very, very tight, but I really want to do something so good for my body, and my baby, like this!

I was born in Oakland but lived in San Leandro and Hawyard. All my family is still there. My mom in in Modesto.

I've sent the midwife an email right after my last reply and when I hear back from her I will let you know!

Have you considered doing it yourself? It would cost you A LOT less!

I am so sorry..but the thought of placenta smoothie really makes me want t vomit..... no offense meant to you. But BLAH!!

I'm planning on doing it. I know I wouldnt be able to stomach the process myself and even though DH said he would do it I found someone that was willing to do it for me. She is a doula in our area (she's on the local AP forum) and she's only charging me $40 which includes pick up and delivery! Considering the benefits I dont see any reason not to do it honestly!

My doula is a placenta encapsulation specialist and is doing it for me. I did not per say have ppd but did have the weapies for the first few weeks after having my twins but I'm thinking a lot had to do with taking care of two babies all on my own because my dh came down with the flu 2 days after we got home from the hosptial. I did have major problems with milk supply and ended up giving up on bfing afte 2 weeks due to lack of supply. I am looking forward to it...but I have to admit I could have lived my whole life not seeing the pictures of it being done....(maybe thats b/c I'm pregnant and queezy) Thanks for starting this thread!
