Re: How do you explain why you...

My son had an allergic reaction . explain that the dr. thinks it's best if you wait ( delay ) and possibly skip it for health reasons.

Re: How do you explain why you...

I told all of the peds. we met at his office that vaxing was against our religion. After the initial appointment before he was born, I just didn't feel like being talked down to again. They weren't going to change my mind, so why bother arguing, you know?

Anyone else who asks, I just say I'm not comfortable with a lot of the ingredients that come with vaxing.

Re: How do you explain why you...

We mostly vax but have delayed or opted out of a few. Usually when people I know ask about why we don't they are being genuine in asking and really want to know. Not to debate the topic. When I ask them why THEY DO vax they just tell me, well, because it's just what you do! That one always cracks me up.

We have a hard time though since our dd passed away from RSV (so they say!) and our ds was a preemie who ended up with RSV (very mild due to the Synagis shot) so of course they freak out when they find that we don't do the flu shots!

But back to what we say, sometimes we lie and say we do or will be doing soon and other times we just tell them we are not comfortable with it and feel confident enough with his drs that if they were to get sick he will be fine.

that's great! haven't tried that one. i fortunately have others close to me who also question vaxxing (my sister and her husband, even my mom who is an autism special ed aide) i don't generally tell people about our vax choices. if someone asks, i refer them to the Dr. Sears book we used to gather information about the vaxxes. i explain as a parent i think it's my duty to do the legwork rather than blindly follow blanket recommendations. and i tell them our ped supports our choices (which she does, her!)
