Question Should I be picking out names? NFP (user failure)

Dear NFP experts,

We use NFP for spacing our kiddos...but we don't have much experience, since we just started using it after DS was born a year ago...which really means that since I got my first PP AF last month, this was our first month to put it into practice.

Keep in mind, we are very "open" to having another baby in the somewhat near future...but we were originally thinking it would be "smart" to wait a good 6 months from now.

Well...I don't temp...I'm more of a CM person...and we were abstaining for about 2 weeks. I could tell that my CM was working up to "fertile quality" and then that it was "fertile quality"...but it just was dragging on for a few days...so we talked about it and decided that maybe we were okay with getting pregnant...not that we were "trying" to....but we've been under a lot of stress lately, since our son is having surgery in a few days...so we thought that maybe my body was gearing up to ovulate but was not ovulating since I was stressed....which is mostly why we decided to take our chances.

We DTD on what was the 2nd to last and also the last day of fertile CM...then no more CM...(hindsight is 20/20 isn't it)

Anyway...long story short, we'd be thrilled to be pregnant again, but the timing wasn't our "first choice".

Did we DTD on the MOST LIKELY day to conceive?? That is what I'm trying to figure out...because if we did...that means it is more likely to happen and I should brace myself for what I may find out in about 2 weeks.

I just need to know. Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for replying.

Sincerely,

NFP dropout

I'd say start preparing yourself for a BFP

Re: Should I be picking out names? NFP (failure)

there is really no way to tell just based on cm, true NFPing relies on temping as the only sign that can confirm when ovulation occurred, cm being the primary bodily predictor of when o will be coming. cm can come and go though, as you said as a woman's body can gear up several times to o before she actually does. my fertility specialist just told me this week that in any given cycle, even with the best timed intercourse, the chances of becoming pregnant for a normally fertile couple are only 15-20% with it going up to 50% after 6 months of timed intercourse. so with that info, i can only predict 15-20% chance at best you did catch the egg this time around (lower if in fact that cm pattern didn't actually reflect when you ovulated).

sorry if that's not much help for ya! i guess you're in the 2ww boat and can join in on atts thread to pee on a stick in a couple weeks! if you are not pregant, i HIGHLY recommend "taking charge of your fertility" by toni weschler as an incredible guide in natural family planning. i would also go so far as to recommend taking a class on it so you can get individualized help for anyone who is trying to use NFP as a means of prevention. I was taught by a professor of mine more than 8 years ago and have been using it ever since for both prevention and achieving pregnancy. i love it, but for it to be effective in preventing a pregnancy you HAVE to be dedicated to charting your fertility signs or else really you are just not-trying/not-preventing, and would have the about the same pregancy probability as you would not using anything UNLESS you are using NFP with barrier methods during fertile times.

and good luck waiting to test!!

I can't really help, but I am currently pregnant with a NFP baby. We DTD in what I thought was in the safe zone, but I O'd early and suprise. I couldn't be happier though, the shock wears off and joy steps in very quickly.

Re: Should I be picking out names? NFP (failure)

I really wouldn't mind being pregnant again...I think that is part of the problem I appreciate the input for sure... Surprisingly, I actually do own the book "taking charge of your fertility" by toni weschler...but my son co-sleeps and nurses at night (he ONLY nurses 2 or 3 times at night...refuses to nurse ever unless it is between 12am and 6am)....so I don't have a long enough stretch of sleep to temp. reliably...which is why I rely on CM....and cervical position...which I should add, was very high on those days.

My question remains...is the last day of EWCM the MOST likely day to ovulate?

Thanks!!

Yes, because usually after o your cm dries up pretty quickly (that is the short answer) But like others said everyone is different and some womens cm comes and goes all month long.

Thank you KaiMom!! That is exactly what happened...I was so set on the fact that we were going to abide by the NFP rules, that I didnt really read up on which days are most likely for ovulation to happen in the cycle....Live and learn...and maybe get a baby out of it...
