Ok new issue. I need a narrow seat to eventually replace the SafeSeat with when DD3 outgrows it. DH's car is super narrow. Right now I can only get 1 nautilus and the Safeseat installed at the same time. We have to rearrange the 3rd row (ridiculously tiny) if all 3 girls are riding with us. I am seriously debating getting DD1 a booster seat to use in this vehicle since I just don't think that I will ever find a setup that will allow all 3 of them to stay harnessed on the rare occasions that we all ride together in his car.
So, this is a rarely used vehicle for all 3, correct? And DD1 is 6? I think it would be fine to get her a booster for his car. I'm not up on what's the most narrow or whatever, but there are other threads on here you can look through. So, what other seats will be in his car and what does he drive? Maybe somebody has some experience with the seats puzzling and/or with what seats work best in his kind of car.

It's not so much rarely used but we do normally take my van. DD1 is 6yrs and weighs just 41lbs but she wants a carseat. We have had to borrow a booster from a friend a couple of times in an emergency and she complains the whole time that she doesn't feel safe (my little traffic cop).
I highly doubt anyone has ANY experience with his car. We live in Japan and he drives Mitsubishi Chariot (TINY station wagon). Right now the other seats will be DD2's Nautilus (back and forth from my van) until I can find something that fits better (she is 4yrs and 42lbs) and DD3's SS1 will go in there permanently when I upgrade her seat in a couple of months.

So are you looking for a seat that will fit 3 across with a nautilus and... what else? I have to say, a booster might hurt more than help for 3 across (except that they tend to be less expensive than harnessed seats). But as far as fitting them in, not only are they often wider than seats like the Radian, but you also have to be able to have space next to them to buckle the seatbelt.
There is a huge 3-across thread at car-seat.org. It seems doubtful that you could find your exact car, but maybe it will give you some ideas of what sort of seats have worked in other small cars.
