Re: How far apart to have children???
I agree that it is really individual. My first two are 2 years 10 months apart, and that worked out pretty well. I had a tough time learning to "triage" everyone's needs...especially as an AP parent. I was always there for DS before DD, and it was quite an adjustment to realize with two, it seemed like someone was crying/unhappy all of the time, and it hurt my heart. It all worked out fine, and I think it helped DS grow as his needs simply couldn't always come first. But it was hard because sometimes DS's needs did need to come first, and I hated hearing an infant cry
If they were closer in age, I think I would have really struggled.Mine are now 5.5 and almost 3, and they are very, very close. The almost 3 year age gap wasn't a problem in terms of them becoming close. I'm pg with #3 and my oldest will be newly 6 when this one is born (which is cool in that this time he "gets" the pregnancy thing more and really is enjoying feeling the baby kick, etc. He liked it when he was 2, but it wasn't the same as I don't think he really got it, kwim?). DD will be 3 years, 3 moths. 3 was a challenging age with DS, so that could be interesting ![]() I couldn't handle closer spacing personally . But we went through IF to conceive my oldest, and the last two have been surprises, so I'm totally thankful it worked out regardless of spacing plans. |
