also, I know you only are suppose to wash once a week, but when I shower daily to wash my body, should I wear a shower cap or something or can I allow my hair to get wet even though it's not being washed?
Yup, an old pantyhose (think bank robber, but not over the face)
For the first few weeks, I would wash once a week and avoid getting them wet more than that. After they are holding their own, I would rinse them as often as you want, but stick to washing 1-2x a week.

The midwife considers the miracle of childbirth as normal, and leaves it alone unless there's trouble. The obstetrician normally sees childbirth as trouble. If he leaves it alone, it's a miracle. --Sheila Stubbs

ok for the last three days I've been using my tea tree shampoo and no conditioner, and the rest of my hair seems to be tame enough that I think I can start my dreads slowly (not all at once) just because I and hubby don't have the TIME to do my whole head all at once so I took the last 5 minutes and did my first little dread sectioned it off, back combed it, used a little aloe vera and palm rolled it, back combed it a bit more and palm rolled it a bit more and YES I'm going for small dreads
Here is my "baby" I couldn't get the end to backcomb very well so mine may end up being whispy for a while I think....

The base of my baby dread is knotting up really well the end is falling out though. I really do think it's too small : / but that's ok - it's a process right DH suggested waiting until after Christmas to do my dreads because he realizes the first few months I'll be "fuzzy" and Christmas is primary picture taking time of year.

Not a bad idea overall How big is the root base on the baby dread? It looks nice, but it is hard to gauge size from a photo, lol.

It's about an inch square. I made it more to gauge how big to make the rest of them because I really do want dreads on the smaller side. I Just don't think I will look very good with larger dreads. If this one falls out, I'll remake it with a larger base or if it doesn't I'll start another one on the other side.
