sewing machine gift for my mil

Suggestions? I think we want to stay around the $150 range. I was looking at the Brother 6000 something. Is that a good one? It looked like on Walmart the reviews were pretty positive.

Yes she can sew, she has an old machine that was probably given to her years ago. She doesn't sew lots by any means, but I think she would if she had a new easy to use machine, kwim? And she told my fil she wanted a new machine, but not to tell us kids, he did anyways

I would suggest against buying a sewing machine for someone else unless you had some input from the person who will be receiving the gift. Sewers can be brand loyal, or maybe they want specific features on their new machine. Is there any way you can get some idea of what she might be looking for and what brand?

If you want to make it a complete surprise, you might give a token sewing gift with the attachment saying that you'll be getting her a new machine (with her input), or something like that. If you must get a machine, make sure you know what the return policy is, in case it's not quite right.
