should I change patterns?
So far I have been sewing fitted diapers with the free RRP pattern and I really like the fit of them. The only thing is that now I bought snap pliers and have stopped using pins. So, now I find the wings way too long and feel like I am wasting a lot of snaps and having wing droop issues that I didn't have with pins. (If I want my hubby or babysitter to change diapers, the pins have to go!)
So...should I try a new pattern or just try to shorten the wings? Should I also try to shorten the front wings? Has anyone modified the RRP pattern successfully? Or is their a similar pattern in fit that is meant to have snaps? TIA! |

Re: should I change patterns?
I would continue to use the RRP - it is a great pattern and I get people to use it for the sewing workshops that I run :-)
Put one of the dipes on your bub and do it up with the normal pins. Get some smaller pins and pin them on the fabric where you would ideally like the snaps to be. Remove the dipe from the baby and transfer the pin locations to your pattern. Based on that, you can re-draw the wing length so that it is just long enough for the snap positions that you have chosen. Sew up one new RRP using your adjusted pattern, set the snaps and try it on your baby to check that everything is fine. When you are happy with the adjustments, go ahead and make a bunch more :-) HTH Regards Marnie |

Re: should I change patterns?
I make a modified Rita and shorten the wings approx 1/2 inch and make them about 2 x fatter and they are perfect with snaps.

Re: should I change patterns?
I use a modified RRP pattern where I shortened and squared the front wings and it works great. I don't put snaps on them, I still use pins but I perfer to put one pin on each hip instead of the one in the middle for a better fit. Also I found that if I just put one in the middle they always seemed to droop on the front flap. And I put elastic in the back to prevent "plumber butt".
It looks like this now: ![]() ![]() One of these days I'll get a snap press and just tweek the pattern a bit and add snaps to it to be more DH friendly. GL |

Re: should I change patterns?
I do mine with snaps
on one wing i do socket snaps facing inward on the other wing i alternate 1 socket snap inward, one stud outward, one socket inward, one stud out that way i can snap them overlapping |
