Heavy duty knitters....thumbs cracking?

I've been knitting up a storm, MUCH more than usual, with customs, gifts, and knitting for my own family. Unlike last winter, I've noticed this winter with all the knitting my thumbs are super dry and cracking. No other parts of my hands....just my thumbs. I wonder if anyone else experiences this who knits a lot? I was thinking maybe it is from the wool fibers continually passing over my thumbs as I knit? It is so annoying! Know of any awesome knitters balm out there?

For now until you can get some knitters balm, use some pure lanolin on it, or shae butter. I use both of those in my lotion bars and they help hubbies hands heal just dandy. But he uses the pure stuff sometimes when I haven't had time to make a batch, it works pretty well too and most of us have it on hand for washing woolies.

Oh duh! I never even thought of lanolin. I have the stuff for breastfeeding left over that I use for woolies and that makes perfect sense! Thanks.

I am not a heavy duty knitter but I have had this problem, too. I'll give the lansinoh a try!
