Diaper Patterns

I got two different diaper patterns and sewed one of each tipe in the size for my youngest and they either fit very poorly or leak. I was wondering, is there a way to design a persons own diapers for small, medium, large and extra large? Like is there set size of sorts for the waste and inseam or whatever it would be called for the length of the diaper. Both patterns here are so totally different. It would be nice to just sew one diaper for all the sizes, but I don't even know where to begin doing something like that. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it. My baby needs diapers, other then the disposables fast and I feel like I am failing at making the diapers and making the change.
Thanks so much in advance.
Lydia

A link for drafting your own pattern. This would get more responses in the craft section probably. There are lots of links there too for diaper patterns and such.

Re: Diaper Patterns

Lydia,
If you have a disposable that fits your child well, I would suggest using that to make your own pattern. Or you could try adjusting the patterns you have, or use one of the free patterns/directions in this thread:

http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/...ead.php?t=3082

You could also try making some contour diapers to get you through for the short term... I made a ton for the newborn/small size. They were very fast to make (no elastic, snaps or velcro) and they are really easy to use with a velcro or snap cover on a little one.

another idea.. buy used dipes on FSOT until you find one that fits perfectly, then use that to make your own pattern!

Good luck!

Re: Diaper Patterns

I seriously put a piece of fabric on my daughter and used a marker to draw where I wanted the dipe to go!!! I put the fabric on her as flat as I could and then drew lol then I laid the fabric down flat and drew a rough sketch. then i took her measurements and 'adjusted' the pattern to suit her shape! my medium size was based on her lol and use lastin for the leg elastics - it will super stretch so you won't get any leaks! HTH!

Re: Diaper Patterns

I cut out really cheap flannel after folding it over my baby for the rise and thigh measurements. Thern I combined what I likes best from other diapers until I had the perfect for my baby diaper :0 Good luck mama. Try sewyourowndiapers.com

I used the Baby Sea Turtles diaper. I was going by the weight requirements, but when I did the diaper is was way too big. So then I went by the waist and then the legs were too big. I guess every baby is different.
Thanks,
Lydia
