Re: Snacker??
Well, if you're concerned about hindmilk, try nursing on the same side two (or more) feedings in a row. Or maybe try pumping a bit before he feeds so that he's getting more hindmilk sooner. You can also try doing breast compressions to keep the milk flowing if you think he's getting bored when the flow slows down.
I think some babies are just going to be snackers. DJ was always that way. He wasn't able to latch in the beginning so I had to exclusively pump and bottlefeed till around 7 weeks...I was already back at work by then so he still got a bottle of breastmilk about 50% of the time. Bottle or breast didn't seem to matter, he wanted a little bit frequently (even at a year old, he *never* took more than 3 oz. at a time!) He's still like that come to think of it! He's almost 2 and while he does eat well at meals, he still likes frequent snacks or "sips" in between. |

Re: Snacker??
A LC just told me as long as the babes poos are the yellow bf poos and not green then they are getting enough hind milk. (nak) They also suggested pumping a little bit first then letting them eat. (I have too much milk)

Re: Snacker??
I wouldn't worry about it so much then! For the first 3 1/2 months I pumped off my letdown and then gave her the breast (my 2 yr old got the stuff I pumped) because before that she was never emptying my breast. Since I have a rapid letdown she was gulping too much too which made her swallow a lot of air and caused her to feel full too early and get gassy.

Re: Snacker??
actually, small very frequent nursings can have MORE fat in them....because the fat from teh previous feeding is still there, so the baby is getting fat for the whole feeding, the fat from the previous, and then the fat from the current....when feedins are longer but spaced more apart, the first part is straight foremilk, and then the hindmilk...but with very frequent little "snacks", there is ALWAYS some fat left in there.
This is what i learned when my "snacker" baby ballooned up to 20 pounds at 3 month old! lol |
