Live like he is deploying tomorrow
Formerly: missyh**d |
I have been wanting to homeschool my children for three years now just I always feel like I would fail them in some way. We are military and have moved a bunch these past three years so it has been a different school each year for my son
. When we finally got here I knew we would be here for awhile and looked forward to the fact that my son would finally be in one school for awhile, well that is not happening. We first put him in a charter school and his first year there was great and he loved it. This year the teacher had no clue about anything ADHD and how t deal with my son correctly. After talking with her we decided that since this would be the same teacher this year and next we shoud move him to our neighborhood school (I wasn't to fond of this school but hoped the teacher would be a better fit for my son). Again thought about hs but decided that since I worked part time we would go this route instead. Things have been going good until last night when I got a letter from the district says my son will be moved to the new school that will open in the fall. So again another new school and for how long we are due to move here in just two years if not sooner. I guess this is God's way of answering my prayers on what to do. I can't stand going to yet another new school and I am not the going. I just have to vent a little, sorry.

Re: school vent
I can't say much except personal experience. Homeschooling is the one constant thing The Kid has here. We are spending this school year living in 3 different countries. We've moved to 3 different houses just on the island. Giving him this little bit of continuity when everything else seems to be in upheaval is one of the few things I can do for him. It was scary plunging in, but I figure I know my kid better than the random teacher he might get each year. If anything else, I can't fail any worse than a teacher that doesn't know how to deal with this ball of energy.

Re: school vent
Mama, as a teacher, I know that if you go to the district with your son's documented ADHD and talk to them about how ANOTHER move would be bad for him just as he is starting to succeed, they will more than likely give you special permission to stay at the school where he is finding success. I know that where I teach, it take very little for a parent to override a school placement. Check into it!

Re: school vent
So sorry that your both going through this mama. I agree that it sounds like God is giving you a nudge toward hsing. It is very easy for mama's to underestimate themselves. I'm sure you will be great teaching your son. Of course you are the only one that knows if it will work for you, but IMO, the benefits of hsing seem to outweigh the benefits of PS (at least in your case ). After all, no one will ever know how to deal with your sons ADHD better than you, and you will never have to worry about compatibility between schools.I hope that things work out for your family no matter what you decide. |

Re: school vent
awwww Big Hugs to you! I think homeschooling sounds like it might be a good choice for you and your son.
I only have 1 child in school now and have considered homeschooling him. We do like his school though and he has been able to go there since Kinder (now in 2nd) so he has a lot of friends there. If he ever was having trouble or I for any reason was not comfortable with him going to school anymore I would Homeschool.
