How long can you store ground flax seed in the refridgerator without it going bad or rancid? This is actually flax that was purchased ground and refridgerated upon opening.

We grind our own and then refrigerate it and it has never gone rancid. We just keep it on the top shelf where it's coldest. I have a sensitive nose for "off" food so I think I'd be able to smell it was bad before I'd use it.
