Re: Five movies you absolutely expect your kids to watch before leaving home.

I don't have any. We rarely watch movies ourselves.

Re: Five movies you absolutely expect your kids to watch before leaving home.

How funny! Breakfast Club, Goonies, Spirited Away, Stand By Me, Gremlins, and Dirty Dancing are all ones that get watched at least once a month by my DD! She loves them all!

My "must-watch" list is mainly anime...

1) Howl's Moving Castle
2) Princess Mononoke
3) My Neighbor Totoro
4) Laputa
5) Kiki's Delivery Service

DH's would be more along the lines of...

1) Star Wars
2) Lord of the Rings
3) Harry Potters
4) Band of Brothers
5) Leathal Weapons

9. Karate Kid
10. Suburbia, The Decline of Western Civilization, Romper Stomper, Sid & Nancy, Quadrophenia , The Kids are Alright, The Filth and the Fury....several more of these types of films...solely because they were such a huge part of my teen years.
I love how you think! I would put a lot of these on my list and Suburbia rocks!!

Dh said DS's first movie should be Star Trek 4 A Voyage Home, because it's a good introduction to Sci-Fi and has a good message. Otherwise the list is

1. Nightmare Before Christmas - great message and music
2. Star Wars- cause you have to see this!
3. Neverending Story- a wonderful adventure
4. All Jim Henson 80's fantasy films
5. Last Unicorn
6. Princess Bride

And as a teenager I think he should see

1. Suburbia
2. Harold and Maude
3. Office Space
4. Breakfast Club
5. Heathers

DH added Bladerunner for teenager and Matrix.

Re: Five movies you absolutely expect your kids to watch before leaving home.

This is such an interestin thread! I wonder what our parents would have wanted us to see. My mom was a big fan of doris day and i loved those movies growing up. Also seven brides for seven brothers robin and the seven hoods etc a lof of movies my peers have never seen!.

when i watched pillow talk as an adult for a womens studies class it made me think of it a different way. Can you imagine a man slapping a woman across the face in a restaraunt? It was totally normal in the movie no one batted an eyelash!!!

i dont know about my list or if i will have a must see list for dd. I cant imagine her ever not watching the sound of music.

everyones picks are interesting! i think its really cool that some of you even know what firefly/serenity is (AMAZING!) and rent was so powerful to me i saw it 6 times on stage when i was in school. There is definitely something lacking in the translation to screen but that really cant be helped i think it was a great movie.

The only one of these movies that I don't own yet is Spirited Away. Lucius has seen all of the other movies already; but I expect he will see them several more times in his life, including when he's old enough to truly enjoy and comprehend them.
TOTALLY agree with the Religulous one! I love that movie. What is Repo and Spirited Away about?
