Re: Newborn Circumcision Decision

Due to a long NICU stay we couldn't fathom putting my first son through another procedure so we didn't. I was secretly very glad- had left my husband in charge of the decision. For second boy- due in a week - I barely managed to convince him not to do it. What worked in the end was asking him to look at a youtube video of the procedure and he found info about it being not as recommended by the american pediatric somebody so he made the decision not to. I have to say it was a long and strategic battle to change his thinking and I couldn't be happier that I managed to do so.

He's been to several doctors and all of them say the same thing-you need to get a circumcision. He's currently trying different things to stretch the foreskin but it's not helping all that much. I'm not sure what he will end up deciding to do. I know that ds wouldn't necessarily have had those same problems, but for us it weighed in on our decision.
You might look hear for some helpful information: http://www.cirp.org/library/treatment/

A tight foreskin is known as phimosis, so you might read the info on that.

I circ'd all 3 of my boys, and while there are no regrets, I don't think I did them any harm if I knew some of the things I do now that I didn't before I probably would not have done it. But like I said I don't have regrets about it, they are just fine and healthy and no problems

Re: Newborn Circumcision Decision

Are there any moms with older DSs where one is circd and the other isnt? I circd my DS1 and if I were to have another I wouldn't do it again...just curious if it had any negative effects on your sons as far as them being so different. What do you tell them if they ask?

My older DS is almost 6yrs-old and is sadly circ'ed. My DS2 is almost 1yr-old and intact. When DS2 came home DS1 asked why theirs parts looked different. I explained when he was born Mommy didn't know any better and let the DR cut part of his private off. But now I know better and didn't let that happen to DS2. He understood and told me "It's okay Mommy, I still love you." DH is circ'ed too and DS1 knows Grandma didn't know any better either.

There are no negative effects.

Re: Newborn Circumcision Decision

I had my son circ'd. DH was dead set that there wasn't going to be another option. If it had been up to me, I probably would not have done it. I don't regret it, I just would have done things differently as a stand alone parent or if I had a partner that wasn't adamant it be done.
