Your favorite diaper fold, teaching a class!

My friend opened a cloth diaper/natural parenting store in October of this year. She asked me if i'd teach a diaper folding class this month. She doesn't use prefolds much, so she doesn't know much about folding where as that's all i usually use (and flats)

But, i have 1 fold for each prefolds and flats i use. I need to brush up on different folds to teach people!

SO...what are your favorite flat or prefold folds? For different ages? Any pictures to help me along? Thanks!

How cool! Ok, here's my take:

Newborn stage: trifolding -- it's fast, effective, and you're not worried about explosive poo

Infant stage (explosive poo): jellyroll with snappi -- it contains all the runny poo

Mobile baby stage (solid poo, less explosive): bikini twist with snappi -- it's faster for a squirmy baby, puts absorbency in the right place, trim in the crotch.

If folding is too much to deal with, you can always still trifold in a well-fitting cover -- we still do this in a pinch with our 13 month old!

For flats I prefer the Kite Fold and the Origami Fold. I make a picture tutorial for both folds if it helps!

Kite Fold

#1: Start with an unfolded flat, in a square

#2: Bring the bottom left corner in, so it lines up with the diagonal

#3: Repeat step 2 with the top right corner

#4: Bring the top left corner down to form another triangle, as pictured above

#5: Take the bottom point and bring it a little less than a quarter of the way up.

#6: Now take this new flat edge you've made and bring it up as well. How far you bring it depends on what rise you need for your child. The farther up you fold, the smaller the rise, and the closer to the bottom you fold the longer the rise.

#7: Bring both the left and right sides to the center.

#8: Fold back each top corner to create wings. This is where you lay baby on top of flat.

#9: Bring bottom edge up over baby

#10: Take each wing and bring it up then around baby. Pin or Snappi and you're done!

Origami Fold

#1: Start with an unfolded Flat

#2: Fold the bottom to the top so you have a rectangle

#3: Bring the left side over the right side so you have a square

#4: On the upper right hand corner, lift the first layer of fabric

#5: Take this layer and bring it to the left so it looks like the triangle in the picture above

#6: Grab the right hand side of the fabric. You'll flip from this side.

#7: Flip the entire flat over, like a mirror image if that makes sense

#8: On the left hand side, lift the first two layers of fabric and fold over once, about 3 inches (see next step)

#9:Fold over once more to make a rectangle in the center like above. You can also fold over 3 times to make the rectangle more narrow, or even 4 times. It's up to you. This is where you'd then lay baby over the flat.

#10: Grab the bottom of the trianle and bring it up to the top. (you'd be bringing it up over baby's tummy here)

#11: Fold each corner in a bit like so

#12: Take each wing and fold over baby's tummy. Secure with pins or snappi and you're done!
