Gluten free bread...

Gluten free bread might just be our downfall! We've gone gluten free everywhere else, but this one is going to kill us. For the life of me, I can't seem to bake a decent loaf of bread. So I got a breadmaker on Craigslist. I used Bob's red mill bread mix, and followed the directions. It worked beautifully....until the time went off and the bread fell.

What did I do wrong? Help! My 3 yo is desperate for a pb&j sandwich. I was going to make a loaf of white and one of whole grain today, but now I just feel inept and stupid.... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Gluten free bread...

I would get Bette Hagman's bread book and use one of her recipes. not to say they won't fall once in a while...but they taste good and usually come out looking like a normal loaf of bread.

Re: Gluten free bread...

Sometimes it just happens. It's pretty rare though. Out of all the GF bread I made, I only had one fall.

I have to agree....when I follow her recipes to the letter, then I get decent bread. Otherwise, my stuff is pretty bad, too.

Re: Gluten free bread...

The Complete Gluten Free Cookbook has some really awesome bread recipes. They even have ones that are specific for bread machines. My boys love peanut butter and honey sandwiches on the applesauce apple oatmeal bread

If you're looking for biscuits, I just found an amazing recipe. We had them for breakfast for the first time today and even DH (not GF) thought they were great. Here's the link if you're interested http://www.recipezaar.com/Easy-Glute...iscuits-159879

Re: Gluten free bread...

Gluten free pantry makes one that we all love. The texture is a little off but it's pretty good.

Bob's red mill bread was horrible.

I was surprised about the vinegar in the ingredients. It did taste funny, but we're new to GF. We tried Pamela's bread mix, and it's expensive, but the family really liked it. My problem is that either my oven runs hot, or the bread maker was a little too old, because the loaves don''t seem to be cooking all the way. DH and I gave up an ordered a bread maker with a GF setting last night.
