What chores are good for a 3.5 year old?

I think I need to set up some responsibilites for ds besides me telling him on the spot to do something.
What sorts of daily chores have you had success with for his age?
How do you work them into your daily routine?
Do you use a chart or magnets or some sort of visual reminder?

TIA

Re: What chores are good for a 3.5 year old?

My son has a chart. If he does all his chores he gets to put a check mark on his chart (stickers or gold stars would work too.) Each day he has to feed the cat, pick up all his toys, put his dishes in the sink, and pick out his outfit for the next day. He also helps dust once a week and helps his sister refill the toilet paper cabinet. If he gets all (or most) of his chart filled for the week then we do something special on the weekend.

My lil man will be 3 April 25th but every day he cleans up the clothes in the bathroom and puts them in the laundry room, he puts his toys away in his bedroom and "cleans" up after lunch, just tosses his plate and cleans up his eating area hehe. Lil man doesn't do much but for him I think its a huge deal! haha.
I also have a 4yr old, and a 6yr old... they all have a few things but not anything set in stone or major, just THEIR own messes and if I ask for help.

Mine pick up their toys, fold washcloths, take their dirty clothes to the hamper, help bring in a few things from the dryer. We don't chart or anything.

My son will be four next month but he helps me with sorting laundry, picks up toys and helps put away dishes.

My almost 4 year old has to make sure that the cat has food and water, and she has to put the silverware up after the dishwasher's been run. That's on top of daily stuff like picking up after herself.

Re: What chores are good for a 3.5 year old?

B helps us all the time.

- Setting the table with napkins and silverware (she isn't a good eater, so if she prepares for it she does much better).
- Feed the dog and cat.
- Help make the beds.
- Put toys away (she's ocd like me and likes matching toys together in the basket )
- Helping with laundry.

Along with other little chores like brushing her teeth and washing her hair (hates bath time, needed a reward). We used to have a sticker chart for each chore for each day. We would do a big prize if she wanted to spend x amount stickers or watch one show for x amount of stickers.

Re: What chores are good for a 3.5 year old?

I don't have a chart or list, but my 3.5 year old knows what his "chores" are.

* set the table
* 5 minute toy round up before each meal
* feed dog/let her outside
* put his dishes and cups away from the dishwasher
* put away his folded clothes (with my assistance)

In general, he also helps to put away groceries, pick up after meals, and to help sort the laundry. Maybe when he gets a little older (and starts getting an allowance) will I use a chart.

*dressing himself
*taking his dishes over to the sink after meals
*putting his clothes in the laundry room (PJs in the morning, regular clothes at night)

*He is not good at picking up toys - we are still working on that.
