Heavy, wet cough.. natural solutions?

Hey mamas
as the title says, my DS, 16 months, has been coughing about 3 days now, progessivly getting worse, it seems. Tomorrow he'll definitly be going to the doctors to rule out bronchitis/pnemonia. I haven't taken him to this point because, like you all know, there's really nothing they can do for "just a cold".

Anyway, I know that with coughs its best to let them cough it out. I have a cool mist humidifier in his room at night, added a few drops of TTO. During the day, I've been putting a little vicks on his chest. Is there anything else I can do to keep him comfortable?

My DS is doing the same thing... I think we are doing the same thing... Though I already put my humidifier up for spring/summer.. May have to pull it out again! We have a MD appointment on Friday.. Hopefully nothing serious.. Just the weather changes..
