Re: How long has your LO breastfed?
My oldest is almost 4 and still nurses. My youngest is 10 months and going strong for sure.
For me, the minimum acceptible is 2 years, followed preferably by child-led weaning. Humans need milk in their diets until at least 2 years old, so it follows that that milk biologically should be human milk, not cow's milk. Cow's milk or formula is an acceptible substitute if the baby is not nursing for whatever reason, but human milk is preferred. Just check the WHO guidelines.

Re: How long has your LO breastfed?
Your prof is going to think I'm nuts!
![]() DD is 13 months and still going STRONG! If Daddy goes in to her when she wakes at night, she starts WAILING because all she wants is to nurse! But, here's the part that will get your prof: my baby nurses, but due to IGT her nursing is either with a supplementer or purely for comfort! So I'm continuing to choose to nurse even though I don't (and never have) make enough milk for it to be nutritionally beneficial for her. The benefits for us are closeness, bonding and my desire to allow her to continue to utilize Momma's natural comfort measures.

Re: How long has your LO breastfed?
I am still EBF my almost 7 month old. At that point she'll get a slight amount of solids maybe once or twice a week. But I plan on BF her until she self weans but no earlier than 2 years if I have the choice. I have always had milk ups & downs but I'm doing my best to keep going strong. I absolutely
to BF, the closeness, the comfort for us both (even when DH has made me upset I'll nurse her and it's better.), and the health benefits are a plus for us. Tell your prof it's people that think those things that cause mothers to wean their children before necessary!!!

Re: How long has your LO breastfed?
DS#1 was weaned at 15 months because I needed to go on a medication that wasn't compatible with bfing and we had exhausted all other options.
DS#2 weaned at 27 months. DD is still going strong at 18 months. I would guess we'll go to around two years, but not too much over that.

Re: How long has your LO breastfed?
DS1 self weaned at 18 months but DS2 only bf'd for 4 months <--i was so, so SOOO sad! But he did take bm through the bottle up until recently when my supply wiped out (after diligently pumping - even at work, fenugreek supps & mothers milk).

Re: How long has your LO breastfed?
DD is currently 11 mo old. I plan on BFing until she wants to stop.
(But at the moment, my mindset is: probably not past 2 years)
