My DD's best friend is moving away HELP

My DD is 2 and a half and her best friend is actually her cousin. My niece is one month older than my daughter and they have been together pretty much since they were born. My SIL is from Canada and her and my BIL have decided to move back up there to be closer to her family. I have been trying to explain to my DD that her cousin is moving away and that we wont be seeing her much anymore because its so far. My DD hasnt really been listening to me about it, if a 2 year old can be in denial my DD has been. Well tonight was the last time we are seeing them before they leave and when it was time to say goodbye my DD freaked out . Any advice on how to make this easier on her? I know we will see them again but probably not for several months. To make matters worse my sister broke up with her long time boyfriend today and he was also someone my DD was very close to so she is "losing" 2 loves ones all at once. Any help is appreciated.

Aww, bieng a military family, we go through this a lot. Just when my kids get to being really good friends with someone, they have to move.

You should have your DD and her cousin become penpals. They can draw pictures for each other, things like that. My kids love mailing things to people, and they love getting mail. On a certain level, not much is going to help except time, but "writing" to each other may help.
