It was my grandpa's name, so that's why I thought to use it, but it's not super popular, also a Catholic saint name.

I have a son and a daughter and both their names are probably in the top 50. Despite the fact that we personally never knew anyone with the name, we found out how popular our choices were once we had (and named) our kids.

Omg this... My friend named their daughter Elsa a few months before Frozen came out. It's such a beautiful unique name but I bet a bunch of Elsas pop up in the next few years.

I'm not in your DDC, but I wanted to throw out names anyway, because your current boy names sound fun. And yes, these are all musical:

Beck
Axle
Bowie
Cypress
Hendrix
Esben
Foofighter

Re: Boy name help!

Desmond, Hudson, Benjamin and Phineas were on our list until we were actually having a boy and friends had already used the first 3 and hubby changed his mind on the 4th. I'm on the same boat now. I don't want a top 100 (or even 500) name but I can't find anything particularly fitting. Hubby also liked Sterling and Alister but I'm not crazy about Sterling and I think the other is more traditionally spelled Alistair and he thinks that would lead to a lifetime of mispellings and mispronunciations so that's a nope too. There's a tumblr blog called the Name Garden or something that's fairly good at coming up with name combos and has lists of less common names that are nice. I like the naturey ones but husband has vetoed everything thus far.

My 2 year old is named Barrett, and then within a year 2 other boys in our area (small area) were named Barrett as well. It still is not that common - but at the same time not "out there" either.
