Fiskars self healing matt?...should I be concerned?

I am slowly getting everything I need together for some sewing endeavors. My grandma generously got me one of those self healing cutting mats for xmas. There is a warning on the label stating the mat contains chemicals known in the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects and reproductive harm. Well that kind of freaks me out...what can anyone tell me about this product.

I have one and I didn't see that warning. I can't say that I am worried. We are not eating off the thing. KWIM?

Ditto this, didn't see the warning but not eating off of it so I'm not worried!

See this info from Fiskars: Proposition 65 Warning. The Prop 65 warning from the state of California requires labeling for amounts of chemicals far, far smaller than Federal requirements require. Note the following portion:

Quote:
The level of potential exposure to these chemicals required for a Proposition 65 warning label is in the parts per billion. In light of the long list of chemicals, as well as the potential miniscule exposure amounts, and since Fiskars cannot control the final destination of products in the stores while we determine which of these products do not require a label, Fiskars has voluntarily applied these warning labels to our products in the possible event that they are purchased in California.
Fiskars states that they "...do not believe that the material content for [their] products pose an exposure risk, however [their] products in the stores currently includes the warning labels due to this review process."

So, essentially Fiskars has put the Prop 65 warning on all of their products while they conduct testing on those products to satisfy the requirements of California state law so that they can then remove the warnings (or leave them should the product contain chemicals in amounts required to be labeled in CA.)

I noticed the same exact warning on a dustpan I bought the other day. How strange that CA places these warnings on such items.

Um, me too! Just be careful if you're cutting with a rotary cutter. I took off part of my finger earlier this week cutting with my left hand instead of my right. Since I wasn't used to doing this, my right hand wasn't completely on my guide.

Ouch.
