Re: Started whole milk stomach problems! Help!

lots and lots of babies have this reaction after they've turned a year and are given whole milk. It is the protein in the cow's milk that our bodies have trouble digesting. It's pushed on us as a necessity, and we can live without it!

DD was terribly sick for a long time, and it was only until I got a copy of her records - reviewed them - then took her to a total health dr. that I realized a huge portion of her sicknesses was caused from whole milk. There are other things we can put into our bodies to provide us with the vitamins and calcium provided in milk - veggies. DD never had ear infections until I started her on milk, and the dr's only suggestion was to get tubes . I wanted to know what was causing them, and finally figured it out when we stopped all dairy. That along with other things we have changed - have made my child that was sick every month into a super heathly toddler

We use rice milk in our home. It does take an adjustment to your taste buds, but it's not bad at all!!

Re: Started whole milk stomach problems! Help!

Ds is 26m and he can only have 2%, anything else (whole,1%(skim,etc) will get him sick (I mean either puking or diarrhea) every time he has even a glass of it, so needless to say we ONLY buy 2%.
I would try something else with your lo, or use the toddler formula, goats milk, etc.

Re: Started whole milk stomach problems! Help!

Was she on a normal formula?? I am just curious, but yes definitely sounds like a milk intolerance to me.

I personally think it is best to stay away from too much soy, there a lot of studies being done about soy and some possible things too much soy can cause. My ds loves rice milk and I buy the kind with added vitamins and calcium, Rice Dreams, and he loves it. Goats Milk is another option, but is a bit pricey, we couldn't afford to give him only that, so rice is working well for us.

Was she BF or FF? Either way it's normal for kids to have milk sensitivities. She may outgrow it in time. Milk isn't the only source of calcium. She could get plenty from yogurts, cheeses, fortified OJ... If she's BF there is no reason she needs to drink cows milk, so if your happy with what you're doing I say keep on doing it.

ETA: We posted at the same time, so I see now.

Re: Started whole milk stomach problems! Help!

If she was on normal formula I wouldnt think she is lactose intolerant...because you would have known a long time ago. It was probably just something that happened at the same time you were switching her and may not even be because of the milk, I would give her a week or two to adjust. Keep in touch with the ped, and as temping as it may be I wouldn't switch her back to formula quite yet, her body may need time to adjust (or it could be something else) and switching can make things worse! (my first dd was lactose intolerant so we have lots of "milk experience!" lol

Re: Started whole milk stomach problems! Help!

I used to breastfeed and then I had tons of health problems(canceR) and had to quit...we have been doing this now for 3 weeks(whole milk)..keep waiting? I have a slight milk intolerence. She just went to sleep after crying for a good couple hours and nothing would help.

Keep at it?

My son also had problems with whole milk and ended up switching him to Rice Dream Rice milk with calcium and the problems including ear infections seemed to stop. Good luck.

If she's in pain, you should stop. I don't understand why she has to drink milk?
