The ATIN documentation looks like you have to have an adoptive placement. Ugh.

Does he have a birth cert? With no legal name? Your county is whacked. It seems that they should be able to get him a SSN. Our kids both had Medicaid without a SSN, but our agency could have gotten SSNs if we had pushed it.

Looks like you'll be amending.

So frustrating!! Yes I have a copy of his birth cert. both first and middle name are just a - - then last name.

So I guess we will amend. BOOO!!!! I asked my sw to check with her supervisor in case there is something else they can do

Yup that's what we had to do for one of our sons. It was a preadoptive foster placement, his birth cert said "baby boy" and his bio last name. Couldn't get a SS # till he was officially adopted and had an actual name. We filed an amendment once it was final. Definitely a PITA.

Good to know though. T's birth certificate says the same. Was it a pain to file an amendment?? At least I won't be spinning my wheels trying to get an ATIN

It wasn't too bad to file the amendment, just took a while to get the return adjustment.
