Question Babysitting query

I want to get as much fb as possible, so I'm posting it here.

Would you hire a male babysitter? Somebody from my church wants some summer work while he is not in class. He's 19 and his family has been a member of my church forever. I'm uncertain.

ETA: DH said "no." My girls are still little (2 & 6) and it is making more uncomfortable the more I think about it. I know that are both male and female pervs, but, nope, I can't do it. Thanks for all of the input!

Yup! Especially if I had boys! It's good for them to have a male around to rough-house with, and have fun with. It also teaches them that males can be caregivers, too!

Yes! As long as he has criminal record and child abuse clearance then I would hire him. (I request background checks on all babysitters though, not just if the babysitter was male).

I voted no, but if you know him and trust him and he is reliable then I say yes. My first thought was no because most 19 year old boys aren't responsible enough.

Re: Babysitting query

Depends on the person. I know a family who has 8 kids and I would trust their oldest boy more than I would trust a lot of people and he's only 15!! But he has lots of practice with 6 younger siblings and he even changes poopy cloth diapers without being asked ..lol..If you don't automatically know that you would be OK with it I say no!

I certainly would. For me it has much more to do with how I feel about a person in general, and not about their sex, as to whether I would be comfortable with them watching my child.

Re: Babysitting query

I voted maybe. I would have to find someone that I really trusted. Unless its family, I have a really hard time trusting my kids with other people. That said, I do have friends that are REALLY close and I would trust them with my children, but outside of that, I'm not sure I would *hire* someone....

Re: Babysitting query

Yes. I would put him through the same checks and balances that I'd put any sitter through. Women can be irresponsible or child molesters, too! (Those are just the two most common reasons I hear for people not wanting to hire a man.)

Re: Babysitting query

I said no, because I have 3 girls. However if I had boys and knew the family of the boy for years I would consider having him come over to interact with the kids and see how they all mesh together, and then decide from there.

gl on your decision.
